September 5, 2015 – It has been almost two years since our last (and first) spotlight of Honor’s Heroes.  This is because we have struggled with how best to get our message out and how to set up and maintain our website.  Honor’s Hero, Jaymie Smith, came to our rescue last month, just in time for Nationwide’s United Way Workplace Giving Campaign.  Jaymie cheerfully set up our website and taught us how to use it.  The Crusade for Cures Team is so grateful to have you as a friend and volunteer, Jaymie Smith.  Thank you for all you do for us!

With gratitude,

The Lusby Family and Crusade for Cures Foundation

P.S.  Jaymie is one of the best photographers I have ever worked with.  Check out her work at pyxiestudios.com.

October 1, 2013 – In our very first spotlight of Honor’s Heroes we would like to acknowledge and show our appreciation for Troy Simmons, Vice President – Nationwide Institute, for all he has done to advocate on behalf of Honor and Crusade for Cures Foundation.  Troy has shared our story with hundreds of Nationwide employees asking them to financially support our cause and spread the word about our mission.  Through Troy’s efforts, Crusade for Cures has raised thousands of dollars and annual donation commitments which will be used exclusively to support medical research to find a cure for Polycystic Kidney Disease.
When asked ‘How and why did you become involved with Crusade for Cures and researching a cure for PKD?’ and ‘What do you hope your efforts will accomplish as you support Crusade for Cures?’ this is what Troy had to say:

“Prior to April 18, 2013 I had never heard of PKD.  I didn’t know what those letters stood for, I didn’t know anyone with PKD, I had no idea how many people are affected worldwide and I didn’t know there was no cure.  On April 18, 2013 everything changed for me when I heard the story of Honor Lusby.  Honor is a four year old boy who this year was diagnosed with PKD.  Just like myself, his parents had never heard of PKD and I’m sure when they first learned of this disease and their son’s diagnosis they were devastated.  Where many families might accept the fate of their child the Lusbys decided to take this disease head on and do everything in their power to provide the best possible outcome for their son.  Once I learned about Honor and the foundation the Lusbys created I wanted to do everything I could to help them reach their goal.  I want to help find a cure for PKD and allow all those affected world wide to live a normal life.

I am hoping that by supporting Crusade for Cures and finding others to support the foundation as well, together we can stop PKD in its tracks.  There is a reason the foundation is called Crusade for Cures and not Crusade for a Cure.  The ultimate goal of the foundation is to find a cure for PKD and then move on to other diseases that are also family altering and life threatening.  Together we can all make a difference and I’m thankful to the Lusbys for giving me a chance to help in the fight!” – Troy Simmons

Thank you for being Honor’s Hero, Troy!

With gratitude,
